A business card, when designed correctly, will not only become a tool for you to relay information about you and your company, it will also become an opportunity for you to connect, make an impression and encourage potential clients to get back at you. When designing your print on demand business cards, you don’t only focus on the elements (i.e. figures and letters) you will be printing on, you will also need to consider the space around these elements. This space is also known as the ‘negative space’ or ‘white space’ although this does not mean that the space should be literally white. If you know what to print and what not to print on your print on demand business cards, you will have a business card that is both attractive and balanced.
So what are these elements you need to put on your print on demand business cards?
We have 5 essential elements listed below that would help you have an organized and professional looking business card.
#1 Company/ Business Logo & Name
First on the list is the company logo and company name. These two will always go hand in hand. You can’t have a business card without your business’ logo and name for they will be the first information that will catch your client’s attention. And the most essential. But make sure you have a good logo. Your logo is the visual representation of your company while your company name will be what the client will recognize your business by so make them prominent when you put them on your business card. A good and eye-catching logo will definitely give you plus points especially if you work in the creative field.
#2 Tagline
This second element is at times not seen in a lot of business cards. This may be due to the fact that the business or company does not have one. However, a tagline is really helpful when you are in business, and must be put on the business card. A tagline is a line that will help you market your business as it shows the character of the people in the company and the company itself. It is also a line that summarizes what your core services are. In addition it can be the line that helps clients recognize your business or company just like the famous taglines from McDonald’s and Nike. McDonald’s “I’m lovin’ it” and Nike’s: “Just do it.”
#3 Name & Job Title
These two will never not be put on a business card, of course. Along with marketing your business or company, you are also marketing yourself. However, people tend to make mistakes in this part. When I say name, it does not mean that you have to print your whole name, complete with middle name and suffixes. You can put the name you want your client to call you by, this way you can avoid re-introducing yourself.
The job title should also be a functional one. If you put ‘CEO’ or ‘founder’ on your job title, sure it looks awesome and fancy, but what do you really do for your company? Are you a music director? A videographer? Titles like music director and videographer will be better than CEO or founder. If you want to put your other credentials, then you can have your functional job title first, then below it would be your name and other positions. Like this:
Creative Director
Jackson Wang, Designer & Founder
#4 Contact Details & Website
When deciding on what contact details to put, you should cross out contact information that would let your clients go through operators instead of going to you directly, like generic emails and general phone lines. Another thing to cross out are contact details that are too personal like your telephone number at home or personal email that has all your subscriptions to online services. You have to provide them with a number they can call like your business phone number and business email that will directly connect your clients to you. This way, it would be easier to reach you and you won’t lose potential clients.
In addition to phone numbers and emails, you can also add your professional social media accounts. You don’t need to have put every social media account you have for the company, all you need to put are the accounts where you are active and where there are things you can boast or present to your clients. If you’re a photographer with an active Instagram account, then you can put the account on the business card.
Most businesses today already have their own websites and why not exploit that, right? But instead of giving them a link that would lead them to your website’s homepage, why not give them a link from your website that would help them know you and your business more. You can put a link that would lead your potential client to a webpage with a video that has all the basic and essential information your client needs to know about you and your company.
#5 QR Code
Lastly, we have the QR code, this one may not be on your business card or not, but as I’ve said this is an essential one. With a QR code, when your client scans this you can have that same special link from #4 opened. You can also have them open an order form or dial a phone number after scanning.
When you’re just starting with your business and do not have a design template yet of your business stationery, then I would suggest to have use the design for your business card as the design for your custom business stationery too. Just like this one.
I would also like to note that you can also use USB cards for your print on demand business cards instead of the traditional paper business cards. Although it may be pricier than the latter, a good thing about them is that you can add more information for your client, without them having to go through the internet.
